![]() Why did I read this book: I’ve had my eye on this book for a while – the premise of teenage potions master-turned assassin sounded amazing, and I really like the Disney-Burton-ish Alice in Wonderland feel to the book jacket. How did I get this book: Review Copy from the Publisher Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she’s certainly no damsel-in-distress-she’s the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her? She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. ![]() Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.īut, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart. ![]() Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction-which means she’s the only one who can save it. ![]()

I couldn't help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date. ![]() So I told him to mind his own damn business―his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business―and went back to my miserable date. He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice. Bestseller, Vi Keeland, comes a sexy new standalone novel. ![]() ![]() ![]() So I liked this book because I wasn’t left wondering ‘what the hell did that mean?’ after each poem her intentions were obvious, which I appreciated.Īs a poet should, Kaur had a beautiful way of describing things, and striking phrases that will stick with me for awhile. Oh, and there are (sometimes graphic) line illustrations accompanying some of the poems, which really help the reader to understand what the poet is trying to say. It basically deals with sexual abuse, a passionate adult relationship following that, the break-up, and then the healing from that breakup. It’s split into four sections, and is not for the faint of heart. Warning: milk and honey is most definitely not a humorous collection (I thought you might think that, based on the sentence above). ![]() And although I hate landscape and nature poetry with a passion, I do enjoy a bit of humor poetry, or poems with a strong narrative behind them, so milk and honey was a good fit for me. I am THAT deep of a person, thank you very much. I love being able to tell people I read poetry, even if it’s just a short, smug response ” Why yes, I read a bit of poetry” (with an expression that would say, ‘doesn’t everyone’?). The title milk and honey was inspired by a poem Rupi wrote in 2012, where she used milk and honey as a metaphor to describe the strength and resilience of. So I don’t read poetry very often, but the good folks at Simon and Schuster offered to send me this book in return for an honest review, and I had heard of Rupi Kaur before ( on buzzfeed nonetheless) so I agreed to give it a go. ![]() ![]() Each "chapter" starts off with an article from the community paper, some pertaining to the incidents, some not. We get many perspectives within the book, Miri, is kind of the main one, although we do get her mother, Rusty, grandmother, Irene, best friend, Natalie, as well as a handful of others. Then the story jumps to 1952, where the majority of the book is set. A woman is on a plane, and after reading the character guide on the pages earlier, it could have easily been one of about a dozen women. ![]() We start the book in "present" day, in 1987. The premise sounded interesting, and I knew, once I was about 50 pages in, I would love this book. So when I was sent this, her newest adult book, I was intrigued. At the age of 10, I pretty much read all I could get my hands on. I remember them all fondly, but I couldn't remember if I LIKED them. It was in grade 4 or 5 that I distinctly remember picking up her children's books, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Superfudge, Freckle Juice, and Blubber, most memorably. ![]() My fairly short history with Judy Blume starts in elementary school. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Champagne and wine are consumed at parties.ĭid you know you can flag iffy content? He pushes her, he slams her into a wall, he knocks the wind out of her while dancing roughly with her, he tells her: "Shut your mouth!" He admits: "There was something about her that brought out a fierce side of him, something primitive that made him want to throttle her one minute and protect her the next." Jack thinks of Olivia threateningly: "He wanted to find her and make her hurt as much as he did." Olivia is attracted to the "barely restrained ferocity behind his ice blue eyes."
